Your ultimate pre-travel checklist: 2 weeks and 1 day prior

Do you ever feel as if you’re waiting for your vacation to come and then it creeps up and all of a sudden you’re flying TOMORROW. Well you can avoid the pre-holiday rush with this guide that covers everything you need to know before you take off.

Two Weeks Prior: Your Comprehensive Pre-Travel Checklist
  1. Confirm Flights and Accomodation:
I once found out the day before my flight to Italy that I had booked the airbnb for the wrong month… So this is your time to check all your accomodation and flights to avoid last-minute surprises.
  2. Check Visa requirements
Visa requirements are different for different countries depending on where you are departing and arriving so if you haven’t sorted your Visa by now. DO IT. Some Visa applications can take longer than 2 weeks so the earlier you do it this the better.
  3. Notify your bank:
If you plan to use your card at all, you need to notify your bank before travel otherwise your bank might flag your transaction as fraud and prevent you from making any transactions overseas.
  4. Pin all the places in Google MyMaps:
You might be a detailed itinerary person, or you might be a spontaneous traveller but the very least you should do is have all your must see destinations, restaurants and hotels pinned on a Google My Map. That way you can see where everything is in real time.
  5. Check Vaccination recommendations
We highly recommend visiting a GP 2 weeks before you travel as they are usually on top of the latest health recommendations around the world. They will usually recommend any vaccinations or medicine to take with you on your trip.
  6. Prepare cash:
Prepare cash to convert but I never convert in my own country – always convert when you get to your destination !!
  7. Plan for Pet and Plant Care (if you have any)
Arrange for pet sitters or plant caregivers to ensure your furry friends and greenery are well cared for during your absence.
The day before:
  1. Print important information:
To be safe I always print a copy of my flights and accomodation just in case my phone dies (or someone steals it or something) and have another copy of my passport.
  2. Charge Electronic Devices + Bring a portable charger + adaptor:
Charge smartphones, cameras, and electronic devices and don’t forget a portable charger and adaptors!!
  3. Weigh your suitcase:
Nothing is worst than getting to the airport and your bag is over the allowance and you’re holding the line up trying to sort it out. Make sure you check your weight first.
  4. Secure Your home:
Lock doors, windows, and set your security system. Request a neighbour’s assistance in monitoring your property.
  5. Bring a small bag for in-flight items
I always like to keep my passport, hand sanitiser, a face mask and hand cream with me so I can easily access them on the flight.
  6. SLEEP
Stock up on your sleep !
